报告题目:Solid State Transformer- with PCB Based Litz Wire

报告摘要:
The subject of solid-state transformer (SST), aiming at replacing traditional bulky 60 Hz transformer, has been widely pursuit in medium voltage applications. Operating at 10-20 kilohertz, SST is featured with high power density, modularity and scalability, and is deemed attractive for such emerging applications as data center, telecommunication, electric vehicle charging, and smart grids.  With the advent of the wide-band-gap power semiconductor devices, a prototype 30KW SST operating at 200KHZ is demonstrated.
It is seemingly preponderant to set such a goal to achieve high frequency, high-power density, and in the same time, high voltage insulation capability. At this frequency level, litz-wire based transformer must be used. It is inevitable that partial discharge is likely to occur with trapped air bubbles among the stranded thin wires.  A novel PCB based litz wire design is proposed for the transformer primary windings together with conventional litz wire on the secondary side. A 200 kHz, 30 kW CLLC converter targeting at 13.8KV application is demonstrated. The peak efficiency of this optimized converter reaches 98.8%, together with 3.7 kW/L power density. The transformer exhibits good insulation capability, with a partial discharge-free level reaching 7.7 kV. 

报告人简介:
Dr. Lee is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Virginia Tech. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, U.S. National Academy of Inventors, and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, China. Dr. Lee founded the Center for power electronics and led a program that encompasses research, technology development, educational outreach, industry collaboration, and technology transfer. To date, more than 250 companies worldwide have benefited from this industry partnership program. 
Dr. Lee has supervised to completion 91 Ph.D. and 93 M.S. students. He holds over 100 US patents, and has published over 330 journal articles and more than 760 refereed technical papers. His research interests include high-frequency power conversion, magnetics and EMI, distributed power systems, renewable energy, power quality, high-density electronics packaging and integration, and modeling and control. 
Dr. Lee is a recipient of the 2015 IEEE Medal in Power Engineering “for contributions to power electronics, especially high-frequency power conversion."
